Fiji Vacation | Matagi Island
64Travel a Fiji Vacation Paradise
I picked up a brochure, oh must've been 15 or 20 years ago now. It was
thin, just one glossy page printed on both sides and folded into four.
I still have it because from the moment I saw it, I just knew that I
would have to visit Matagi Island sometime before I die. It looks and sounds absolutely wonderful!
According
to the brochure (see bottom of hub), Matagi Island is privately owned and PRIVATE. No
hustle, no bustle, just peace and quiet. Oh yeah, and it's world renown for
diving and scenery.
The Perfect Fiji Vacation
Matagi Island is known as the jewel of the north. It is considered one of Fiji's
most secluded islands and a nature lover's dream location. Matagi is a
240 acre paradise, unsurpassed in marine life and diver's delights, as
well as a submerged volcanic crater, turquoise water lagoons, white
sand beaches and a rainforest. There's no lack of natural scenery in Matagi!
If
you prefer to do something other than soaking up the sun at the
Pacific's edge, you may want to just enjoy the solitude or take
advantage of the many other recreational opportunities in this
beautiful Fiji vacation spot:
- mountain hikes
- sports fishing
- windsurfing
- wild and tame bird watching
- bush walks
- fly fishing
- snorkeling
- explore caves
- paddle canoeing
- beachcombing
- scuba diving
The Ideal Fiji Vacation Spot for Divers and Fishers
Matagi
Island is the ideal place for diving enthusiasts. Surrounded by reefs,
lagoons and a constant water temperature of about 78 degrees F. (25
degress C.), divers the world over explore the clear waters to see the
exotic marine life and abundance of coral-clad reefs.
If diving and sports fishing are new activities for you, there are qualified people to help you out.
Your Ideal Fiji Vacation on Matagi Island
Travel, Accommodation and Food
Getting
to Matagi Island requires a plane ride to Fiji, then a ride to a boat
dock, then a boat ride to the island. All part of the adventure!
Regarding
accommodations, well you can stay in one of the 11 cottages or 3 tree
houses, which they call bures. Like I said, adventure, and very, very
private.
The food on Matagi Island is fresh, according to my
brochure. I imagine that it is brought by boat from the mainland daily
or weekly.
If any of you have had the pleasure of visiting Matagi
Island, I would LOVE to hear about it. In fact, I would welcome you to
share your opinion/review in a comment here, if you're willing.
Unless I hear bad stuff about this place, Matagi Island remains on my "must see" list of destinations. It sounds like sheer Heaven to me!
If you are planning a Fiji vacation, please consider this wonderful location.
Very Private, Very Beautiful

very nice hub I love to visit sometime
I've been to Matagi four times in the 1990's. To me it is the most beautiful island on the planet. The diving is outstandinng, the family who owns the island are wonderful and I hope they are all OK. I'm looking forward to visiting Matagi again.

Very beautiful. I'd like to own an island like that one day (we can dream, can't we?). Thanks for sharing.
